It’s Friday tomorrow – wear something bright!

You know how I love colour?  And I have a bit of a downer on people wearing black?  Well, this article about a survey by Tu at Sainsbury’s of what colour clothes women wear on different days of the week made me very sad since it shows that women are more likely to wear black or dark colours at the beginning of the week, and brighter colours at the end.  So, since tomorrow is Friday, have a dig in your wardrobe and wear something bright!

I was pleased to see the comment by Anna Clarke, head of womenswear buying for Tu saying:

“The links between colour and mood are well established and looking vibrant can encourage the same feeling in the wearer.

“Black clothing will always have its place but embracing colour and being adventurous with your style can have added bonuses on our happiness levels.”

Does wearing black give you confidence?

However, I think the article finishes by perpetuating a myth that wearing black gives you confidence.  I know from speaking to many clients that wearing black gives “confidence” because it allows you to hide in the background, blend in with the crowd, and not draw attention to yourself.  Is that really confidence?  Or would it be better to really know what colours suited you, what shapes complemented you, and what styles allowed you express your true personality so that when you look in the mirror you’re happy with the image you see?

Wear bright colours to lift your mood

Wear something bright – that suits you!

If you want to find out just how to do that, have a look at the Image Consultations that I offer, and before you dismiss it as being too expensive, just imagine everything you’ve bought that you’ve worn once or twice (or not at all) before sending it off to the charity shop.  How much money have you wasted buying the wrong things – or will you continue to waste if you keep doing what you’ve always done?

I'd love to hear your comments on this post
