Summer Wardrobe: Nude Slingbacks

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about what to pack when travelling and how I base a lot of my packing decision around only taking one pair of shoes.

It seems apt to continue the shoe theme with my summer wardrobe series.

I was talking to a business contact about her shoe dilemma the other day.  She had a dress but had no idea what shoes to wear with it.  At that stage it was too cool and showery for sandals and black tights and shoes were just wrong for the outfit – “What should I wear?”

At this time of year, I think a pair of nude slingbacks is a good summer staple – and depending on how you feel about your legs, with or without nude tights (but not any other colours of tights).

There are a number of reasons why I suggest them.

  1. They are light coloured and go with the season (if not the weather!)
  2. They make your legs look longer
  3. They go with most colours – perfect for the capsule wardrobe
  4. They are elegant and timeless but less formal than a court shoe

If you find slingbacks slip off your heels, you can find suede or gel heel grips to stick to the inside of the slingback which help to keep them in place.

Thanks to Kate Middleton and her love of the LK Bennett Sledge, nude heels are popular in he shops and available in lots of styles.  My nude slingbacks are wedge heeled with a peep-toe.  They take me a lot of places.

And there’s an acknowledgement that nude means a different colour on different skin tones so different shades are available.  I love that Christian Louboutin led the way on this but, as with all fashion, where couture goes, the high street follows.
