What new kind of fruit could you be?

I see that Debenhams have come up with a new body shape guide describing bodies as different types of fruit.  Not just apples and pears but strawberry, double cherry and rhubarb.  I also saw something that described the typical superhero body shape of wide shoulders and slim hips as a parsnip!

Gillian Lewis: Spectrum Blog post "What new fruit are you"

I’ve said before that I’ve seen lots of descriptions of body shapes, and there’s very little that’s new – just a renaming of different types to create a new model.  What I would like to see are clothes designs that actually work for women’s body shapes in shops – however the body shape might be described.

Sometimes I look at clothes and I really wonder who they were designed for, when you get a style, pattern and fabrics that just don’t work together.  I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just about creating a new range to sell in the shops, rather than focusing on what works really well.  I quite like designers who keep to the same staple shapes and bring them out in different colours over the years (although I write to Rohan every year to ask them if they’re ever going to bring out their white linen trousers again – and no, striped ones just aren’t the same Rohan!).

When you know what your body shape is, and that isn’t just about the shape, but your proportions and scale as well, you have the ability to walk around a clothes shop and discount clothes without a trip to the changing room to realise that it does nothing for you (or worse, buying it and wearing it then realising it just doesn’t do anything for you).  You have the confidence that you’re wearing things that you look great in, and the positive messages you’re giving yourself internally will have a ripple effect through your whole life.

If you would like to find out what works for you, book a consultation.  Just think about the amount of money you’ve wasted over the years, and the amount of angst you’ve had because you “haven’t got a thing to wear” in your bulging wardrobe.  Imagine that never being a problem again, and you’ll realise seeing me for an image makeover is an investment that everybody should make, and will pay for itself in no time at all.

Do you like any of these new descriptions?  Leave a comment below 😀

I'd love to hear your comments on this post
